Buddha Śākyamuni’s First Sermon

釋迦牟尼佛結跏趺坐於蓮花座上,手持說法印。佛陀旁邊的背景為雪嶺,其上的祥雲處坐著兩位格魯派的僧人。兩人右手舉起,持說法印,左手拿著佛典放在膝上。下界左右兩旁均有一個站著的菩薩和結跏趺坐的僧侶,中間擺放著五妙欲的供養:明鏡代表「色」,琵琶代表「聲」,盛於白螺中的香水代表「香」,果實代表「味」,白綾代表「觸」。

Buddha Śākyamuni is seated in vajrāsana upon a lotus and forms the teaching gesture. In the upper corners two identical Gelukpa figures are depicted in clouds above stylized snowy peaks. With their right hands they make a teaching gesture and with their left hands they hold on their laps Buddhist scriptures. In the foreground two monks and two standing bodhisattvas are shown flanking an offering of the five senses which consists of the mirror that represents the sense of sight, string instrument vīṇā that represents hearing, a conch filled with perfume that represents smell, a fruit that represents taste, and a silk scarf that represents the sense of touch.
