Qinghai (Amdo), mid 20th century
The red-coloured Buddha Amitāyus is adorned with sambhogakāya ornaments and seated in vajrāsana on a lotus throne. His hands in meditation gesture hold the vase containing long-life elixir (amṛta) on his lap. From the vase sprouts the aśoka tree. In the upper corners two identical Gelukpa figures are depicted in three-quarter profile. In the lower corners two wrathful deities appear in an active warrior pose, the blue Vajrapāṇī on the left and possibly Hayagrīva to the right.
