阿底峽尊者

阿底峽尊者 ( 西元980-1055),知名大學者,法號燃燈吉祥智,生於今孟加拉國,從超戒寺被邀請至西藏傳戒及傳法講經,是復興西藏佛教的第一位重要人物。主尊阿底峽尊者身披袈裟,頭戴班智達帽,以坐禪之姿在蓮花臺上的月輪上安坐,雙手在胸前結說法印。他的左方見一金色佛塔,右邊有一寶篋。 左上角見一手托鉢盂之佛陀,右上角是白度母。右下角是尊者的在家弟子仲敦巴( 西元1005-1064),左下角是另一弟子俄雷必喜饒( 西元1059-1109)。

The eminent Bengali teacher Atiśa Dīpaṃkara (ca. 980-1055) from Vikramaśila university was invited to West Tibet and became the pivot of the second transmission of Buddhism to Tibet. Wearing monastic garments and a paṇḍita cap, he is shown seated in meditation posture on a moon disk placed upon an elevated lotus in the centre. His hands are placed at his heart in the dharma teaching gesture. Close to him stands a golden stūpa on the left and a treasure basket to the right. A Buddha figure with an alms-bowl in his lap is shown in the upper left and the goddess White Tārā in the upper right corner. In the lower left corner Atiśa’s main disciple, Dromtön (‘Brom ston, 1005-1064 CE), is depicted, and on the left another disciple Ngog Legpai Sherab (Rngog legs pa’i shes rab, 1059-1109).
